Casino-Gaming :: What Percentage Of Races Does The Favorite Horse Win?

Thus, I suggest that you limit yourself to horse races with either 6 or 9 horses running to have the best chance of winning.

Thus, the question asked is if you should bet on the horse most likely to win? Sometimes the answer to this is “no”. The reason being that the odds are often better than the favorite winning the race. I suggest that you choose horse races with nine runners and 1/4 odds on the first three, or six runners with 1/4 odds on the first two. Remember, when you use this system, you are making your predictions on the odds.

As a general rule, the favorite will win about 1/3 of the time, but what is amazing is how often the favorite will place, especially when less than half of the field is 5-1 or lower. Of course, if you placed a win bet and the horse does win, then you will come away with lots of money. You really need odds of at least 4/1 to win anything if the horse that you bet on places second or third. In 2 out of 3 races some other horse wins.

In my opinion, the secret of winning on the horses is to look at the statistics. For this reason, I do not always place my money on the horse that is predicted to win. The key point: is stay away from horse races where there are lots of runners!

As one can see, it often is better to bet on a horse you think is going to place. And do not forget, the horse still has a chance of winning too. Therefore, it is statistically speaking, a bad race to bet on. Look at the odds being offered and if they are better on the second or third horse, then go for it.

In order to win a horse race, you might want to predict the winner by using statistical calculations instead. If the odds are less than 4/1, then I suggest passing such a horse race. Thus, place your bet around 20 minutes to race time.

If the horses just below the favorite have better odds, such as 4/1, 5/1 or better; then place your bet on those horses. Remember, that your horse only has to come in the first three in a six or nine horse race for you to come away with a profit. In a race with 20 runners you have a 1 in 20 chance of picking the winner. However, let us say that the race has just six runners, then you have a 1 in 6 chance of winning. Thus, you can see that the fewer the runners there are, the better your chances of winning. In this case a favorite will place almost 100% of the time.

In a race with only six horses running, you have a 1 in 6 chance of picking a winner. Often the odds on the horse most likely to win is poor. Why does the horse predicted to place actually wins so many races? Maybe because the favorite usually only wins 1 in 3 races. . Of course, this is providing that you placed a place or show bet. However, bookmakers/tracks usually only offer poor odds if you bet place or show on such a horse

“How to Choose the Right Sportsbook!”

But ask yourself ; “how easy is it to get access to my money and how much does it cost?”

This article was posted on October 22, 2004

So what do you look for:

Not all the above are critical – but help towards finding a secure book. King

The UK has a number of established books including William Hill, Ladbrokes, Coral, and Victor Chandler.

You are keeping your money in an account online. The offshore books with whom I work are top grade but it is in the offshore environment that problems occasionally occur. Options should be available that are ‘free’ or where the sportsbook absorbs the charges. These vary quite a bit from book to book. I have had at least three online sportsbooks go broke on me – luckily my losses were kept to a few thousand dollars – that may sound a lot but it could have been a lot worse.

If you have already have an account with a sportsbook watch out for lapses in customer service and slowness of payment – these can be signs that the company could be in trouble.

“How to Choose the Right Sportsbook!”

by: Daniel B. Therefore you should think of the sportsbook you are considering as a bank – a place that you intend to keep funds long term.

Well I am in a position to speak from some experience – I did at one time hold accounts with about sixty bookmakers in Europe, UK, Australia and offshore – the latter catering mainly to the US market. Often these website owners know nothing about betting, do not hold accounts with the sportsbooks they are advertising and have not researched the companies they are involved with.

I would say that US bettors are at most risk since they are generally forced to bet at offshore sportsbooks due to legality issues. I also like SportingBet (www.SBSportsbook.com) who take US customers and cater for global sports.

Happy betting!

It is not that easy finding a reputable sportsbook – partly because the web is populated by website owners who will sing the praises of a sportsbook or casino simply because they earn revenue from signing up customers via an affiliate program. It is, therefore, critical that those US customers put in the research before signing up.

Read press articles as opposed to reviews – reviews are usually written by the sportsbook’s marketing team.

Test run the software by joining and playing for free – most sportsbooks offer this facility.

Find out if your funds are insured or separated in ESCROW accounts so that if the sportsbook company goes under – your funds are still safe.

Find out if the sportsbook is independently audited.

How long has the operation been online – three to four years is usually a good marker as a minimum.

Test out the customer services to see if they meet your standards or the standards they promise you.

If you know about betting already, then check some of their odds and lines – are they in keeping with what you would expect? Some less scrupulous sportsbooks offer very attractive prices to lure unsuspecting bettors.

So you have decided to start betting online – or maybe you just want to find a new trustworthy sportsbook – what do you need to look out for? .

Find out if the sportsbook is part of a larger group of companies. Sometimes this means added solidity.

Negative Effects of Gambling

Negative Effects of Gambling

They tend to stay away from their near ones, resulting in distrust between them and their loved ones.

? Similar to how an individual keeps consuming substances like drugs or alcohol to experience an altered mental state, he continues to gamble. The decision to gamble money is based on three parameters namely; how much to bet, the predictability of the event, and the conditions agreed upon, between the gamblers. To add to the so-called merry atmosphere, gamblers often smoke or drink while playing.

? A majority of those addicted to gambling have substance abuse disorders.

? The addiction to gambling can leave one in bankruptcy. Card games, coin tossing, and dice-based games are some non-casino based forms of gambling. Their mental state can even lead to suicidal tendencies.

? Apart from absence at work and drop in efficiency, a common observation is that gamblers tend to steal money and engage in fraudulent behavior to recover from financial losses incurred when gambling, or to get more money to bet.

? As gambling leads to increased criminal activities, in a way, gamblers add to the burden on prisons and the legal system.

? According to the University of New York, in people with alcohol use disorders, the chances of developing an addiction to gambling are 23 times higher.

? An Austrian study said that around 1 in 5 suicidal patients had a gambling problem.

? The stress from gambling may lead to health issues like ulcers, stomach problems, muscle pains, headaches, and problems with sleep.

You could be at gunpoint or holding the gun. Forget satisfaction or peace, it is not even refreshing in the real sense. In spite of the losses incurred, they continue betting. Rehabilitating the gambling addicts needs money and time, and the process is not very easy. The stress of risking huge amounts of money or the frustration after losing it can increase the tendency of abuse in gamblers. It soon becomes a habit that can’t be broken.

? Gambling at the cost of one’s job results in a decline in the quality of his professional life. The addiction robs a gambler of all the productive time and leads to loss of efficiency at work. A study by the same university suggested that 73% of the individuals who are imprisoned are found to be problem gamblers.

? Problem gamblers and addicts tend to abuse their family members. ? Gambling can lead to criminal activities. Due to lost mental peace, they may ill-treat their spouse and children. Some take to substance abuse to supplement the high they get from winning huge sums while gambling. When they lose the money they had risked, they further gamble to recover the lost amount and it becomes a vicious circle even they can’t escape from.

? Over time, the practice of gambling starts becoming a habit and begins to have damaging effects at psychological, physical, and social levels. It causes a decline in his/her work performance, thus hampering his career.

Gambling = Thoughtless Expenditure + Waste of Time

? Additionally, rehabilitation and public assistance systems are taxed.

Games offered in casinos, table games like poker, Red Dog, and Blackjack, as also electronic games like Slot Machine and Video Poker are some of the common types of gambling. Addiction to gambling, coupled with substance abuse can make the gamblers physically abusive towards their family. The greed never ends and they keep betting more and more. Thus, gambling can have a grave economic impact which is difficult to reverse.

? People continue gambling with the greed of winning money. On giving a serious consideration to the negative effects of gambling, we realize that it is best avoided.

? Studies show that children with a sibling or parent addicted to gambling, are more likely to take to substance abuse.

? Gambling has proven to be addictive. A recreational activity is supposed to be refreshing and relaxing, but something like gambling is contrary to the very purpose of recreation. Sports betting and arbitrage betting are the other types. Their debt keeps building and it may reach an amount that exceeds their capacity to repay.

? According to a research by NCPG, 76 percent of problem gamblers are likely to have a major depressive disorder.

Compulsive gambling leads to bankruptcy

? According to a study by the George State University, 50% of the problem gamblers commit crime. The effect is similar to that of having a drug or a drink, which is why gambling changes one’s mental state and mood.

? They start borrowing money and take secret loans. The National Council of Problem Gambling (NCPG) describes this type of gambling behavior as problem gambling.

? Gambling is practiced as a means of recreation. It only leads to a thoughtless expenditure of money and valuables.

Mental and physical health problems, financial issues, and conflicts in the family are among the common negative effects of gambling. It can drag you into crime, gambling isn’t fun.

? The costs of treating compulsive gamblers are huge. Some go that way to forget the sorrow of losing big sums when gambling.

? Gamblers often exhibit mood swings and a strangely secretive behavior. The skill of a gambler lies in weighing the three parameters and making a decision about what amount should be staked and how much should be expected in return.

? Addiction to gambling has been linked with substance abuse. The addiction has negative effects on one’s physical and mental health and it proves to be detrimental to one’s social, personal, and professional life. This proves to be detrimental to their social and family life. Over time, it becomes a habit, and eventually an obsession that can’t be overcome. In the following sections of this Buzzle article, we discuss the negative effects of gambling on the individual and society.

Initially, one looks at gambling as a way to run away from life’s problems, or from stress, anger, and loneliness. Six to eight million people in America are estimated to have a gambling problem.

? Research has shown that gambling can lead to harmful behavior in people. Because of this, they land in worse situations and take the wrong decisions in life.

? People who fall prey to gambling tend to remain away from their families and waste money on other bad practices. The two go hand in hand. The addiction gets on to the gamblers to such an extent that they fail to think wisely before acting. Betting is a mentally taxing activity, and as one goes on risking more and more money, anxiety starts building.. According to the National Research Council, 10 to 17% of the children of problem gamblers have been abused and so have 25 to 50% of the partners of problems gamblers.

? Children of parents who are problem gamblers or gambling addicts tend to feel abandoned and angry, further increasing stress and leading to strained family relations.

? Substances of abuse are served at casinos and in pubs and clubs, thus increasing the likelihood of gamblers consuming them. Thus, gambling practices cause a huge financial burden on the families of the affected and on the society at large.

Gambling refers to the betting of money on an event with an uncertain outcome, with the intent of winning additional wealth. They engage in gambling activities at the cost of their time with family and friends. The addiction leads people to continue with gambling irrespective of whether they earn or lose in the deal

Top Horse Races – Graded Stakes Put the Sport’s Top Thoroughbreds on Display

The process of assigning grades is somewhat convoluted, but in essence what the committee does is look at the relative strength of a race over a five-year period. Stakes races with a purse of at least $75,000. That’s why many of the new races in the Breeders’ Cup over the last few years were not initially graded. .

Grades are determined and assigned by TOBA’s American Graded Stakes Committee, which consists of six members of TOBA and five racing officials. The committee assigned Grade 1 status to 112 races, (24.1 percent), Grade 2 status to 151 races (32.5 percent) and Grade 3 status to 202 races (43.4 percent).

Grade 1 races are expected to attract the best racehorses in training and potential champions.

In 1973, horse racing in North America entered a new era when the concept of “graded stakes” races became a reality.

A Grade 2 race, which is one step down from a Grade 1, must have a minimum purse of $150,000. A minimum of six committee members would have to be on board in order for a race to be downgraded.

In order for a race to be upgraded, it must be approved by at least eight members of the committee. The idea of assigning grades to various stakes races, which is administered by the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association, was designed to provide breeders with an easy reference to compare the relative class and ability of a racehorse. Grade 1s, which include races such as the Kentucky Derby and Breeders’ Cup Classic, are considered the most prestigious of all North American Stakes races and carry the biggest purses.

“Why bother? Why try to remember which race is better than, or inferior to, another?” Kent Hollingsworth, the longtime editor-in-chief of the influential trade publication Blood-Horse Magazine, wrote in 1973. To be eligible for Grade 1 status, a race must have a minimum purse of $250,000.

An ardent fan of horse racing for years, I am extremely passionate about writing articles on adventurous topics on the lines of new developments in sports, online games as well as other fields.

Stakes races can be assigned one of three grades–Grade 1, Grade 2, and Grade 3.

A Grade 3 race, the lowest level of graded stakes races, must have a minimum purse of $100,000. For example, the Grade 2 San Antonio Stakes at Santa Anita is followed a month later by the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap. A Grade 3 race will often feature horses on the rise with Grade 1 aspirations, or horses that have already proven in their careers that they are a cut or two below the very best. Often, a Grade 2 race will precede a Grade 1 race on the racing schedule.

For 2012, the American Graded Stakes Committee reviewed 659 unrestricted U.S. The better the horses that compete, the higher the grade. “Because, to improve the breed, to upgrade a broodmare band, to select a stallion, to understand a catalogue page, to evaluate a family–one must be able to recognize racing class.”

In order for a stakes race to be graded, it must be run under the same conditions for a minimum of two years

How the Sports Betting Line is Made by RJ Bell

By moving the line, sportsbooks can influence how the public bets on a particular game. If we’ve done that, we’ve done our job.”

What Is the Line Trying to Accomplish?

The last step in the line-making process for each oddsmaker is taking one final look to determine whether or not the line “feels right.” This is where common sense and past experience with how games are bet enters into the picture.

For example, if the pointspread on a game is 7 and most of the money is coming in on the underdog (taking the +7), sportsbooks will then move the number down to 6 ½ to try and attract money on the favorite.

Since the oddsmaker’s ultimate goal is equally dividing the betting action, public perception and betting patterns must be taken into account.

Oddsmakers can also change the line depending on various event-related factors such as player injuries or weather.

Moving the line is the oddsmaker’s effort to balance betting action, and often times such moves can have a major impact on a bettor’s decision.

Oddsmakers at LVSC are professional sports junkies who love what they do and would probably do it for nothing if you asked them, but they do get paid for it. Mike Seba is a Senior Oddsmaker at LVSC and has been making lines for the last six years.

“You either have a passion for it or you don’t,” Seba said.

Contributed by:

The purpose of these adjustments, like all line adjustments, is to more equally divide the betting action.

Once betting begins, sportsbooks can adjust the line at any time. By necessity their approach is very research-oriented and concise, since with millions of dollars at risk there is little margin for error. Examples of non-game factors that would require an adjustment to a team’s power rating are key player injuries and player trades. Stated another way, they want to create a line that half the people find appealing to bet one way while the other half find it appealing to bet the other way (known as ‘dividing the action’). Obviously, if the line comes out a week ahead of the event (which is the case in football), there is much that could happen during the week leading up to the event that could affect the line. That is not the case at all – their intent is NOT to evenly split the ATS result between the teams; rather, their goal is to attract equal betting action on both sides. In our extended interview, Seba explained that there are 4-5 oddsmakers assigned to make lines for each of the major sports (pro & college football and basketball; MLB, NHL, boxing, golf). In doing so they attempt to make more attractive the team that is getting less action.

How the Opening Line Is Made

Once the opening line is released by LVSC, the individual sportsbooks decide if they want to make any adjustments before offering it to the public.

Experts working for the individual books having a strong opinion on the game . If an oddsmaker comes up with a preliminary line of USC -7, then an adjustment up to -7.5 or -8 would be made in response to the public’s expected USC bias. “We’re not trying to pick the team that covers the spread, we’re trying to make it a coin flip, a tough decision (for the bettor). Each of these oddsmakers bring unique opinions, strengths and weaknesses to the process.

Power ratings are the oddsmaker’s value of each team and are used as a guide to calculate a “preliminary” pointspread on an upcoming game. Reasons for such adjustments include:

“The #1 thing for us is to make a line for each game that creates good two-way action. People think it’s much more complicated, but it’s not.”

Divided action means the sportsbook is guaranteed a profit on the game because of the fee charged to the bettor (called juice or vig – typically $11 bet to win $10).

Las Vegas Sports Consultants (LVSC) is the world’s premier oddsmaking company and the most respected authority on making the lines.

The opening line is the first line created by the oddsmakers, which is then sent out to sportsbooks.

Once a game’s power rating based pointspread is determined, the oddsmaker will make adjustments to that line after considering each team’s most recent games played and previous games played against that opponent. Why the Line Changes

A round-table discussion among the 4-5 oddsmakers involved in making the line for each sport is then conducted and a consensus line is decided upon by the Odds Director before it is released to the sportsbooks. Of course there is an entire method to the madness on how the opening line is created. The power ratings are adjusted after each game a team plays. For example, the public might have heavy betting interest week after week on a popular college football team such as USC. Oddsmakers have to determine if any changes are necessary and send out an “adjusted line.”

Individual books having players who consistently bet with certain tendencies (such as an extreme bias toward favorites or toward a certain popular team like USC)

There is a common misconception that point spreads represent the oddsmakers’ prediction of how many points the favorite will win by. We do this by drawing from past experiences and applying them to current situations. Seba explained that it all starts with each oddsmaker creating a line on each game based upon their own personal approach.

“The main objective is that our clients get equal action on both sides,” Seba said. This usually includes having up-to-date power ratings on each team. Also, adjustments are made after reading each team’s local newspapers to get a sense of what the coaches & players are thinking going into the game. Of the 4-5 oddsmakers, generally the 2 most respected opinions are weighed more heavily by the Odds Director before he decides on the final line

Casino-Gaming :: How To Start Your Own Online Casino & Poker Room Gaming Business (Page 1 of 2)

This is the least expensive option to start an online gaming business. Usually the gaming software provider has payment processing (merchant account providers) already set up for a fully turnkey operation. In addition, no royalties are paid out to a gaming software development company. The potential of online gaming business is too big to ignore. The internet eliminated all the obstacles. In China and Malaysia, there are twice as many online gamers as there are Internet shoppers. The average licensing fees are around $150,000 (this usually includes marketing costs). 3) Most Affordable – Become a Sublicensee of an existing Licensee. However, you will have full control of your gaming site, and full knowledge of the source code of your gaming software.

Dear Entrepreneur,

Date: June 7, 2007. The sublicensee is responsible for all the marketing and receives a smaller percentage than a full licensee (2), because royalties paid to the licensee are much higher.

There are 3 ways to start an online gaming business:

Revenues in online gaming business rose from only $800 million to over $2 billion in 1999! By year 2006, it is estimated that online gambling industry will top over $14 billion in revenues! London-based Merrill Lynch analyst Andrew Burnett says online gambling could generate more than $150 billion in revenues by 2015. You will also need to obtain a gaming license to run your online gaming business, which requires approval from most governments. This is a far less expensive option and the client receives all the gambling software and sometimes even the equipment necessary. Now is the perfect time to get onboard. It is also the most popular option for both licensed land-based establishments as well as entrepreneurs. The popularity of online gaming is increasing rapidly and this year has seen significant growth in Europe and Asia.

Until recently small entrepreneurs had no chance of getting into the gambling industry, because of huge capital investments, gaming license acquisitions and legal red tape. Costs range from $30,000 to $350,000.

Did you know that online gambling business is currently one of the fastest growing business categories in the world? In fact, the gambling industry in the United States alone generates more annual revenues, than the Hollywood movie industry, music industry and video game industry sales combined! Americans spend over $54 billion on gambling annually. In most cases a royalty is paid to the gaming software provider as a percentage of the monthly “take” or “drop” (gross profit). You can now own and promote your own online casino, sportsbook and multiplayer poker room gaming business and generate revenues you’ve only dreamt about.

2) Average – Become a Licensee of an Online Gambling Software Provider. Around 43% of Chinese Internet users play games online, while just 16% report that they shop online.

1) Most Expensive – Design and implement all gaming software for an online casino, sportsbook and multiplayer poker room which could cost you millions of US Dollars. Costs range from $5,000 to $60,000
